Ive dabbled in various mediums but since discovering watercolour that has been my choice till today,as its always interesting and challenging, as well as convenient in its portability - its also cheaper than oil painting ,materials wise, apart perhaps for the paper- the better the paper the better the results-
I did go to Portsmouth Art College a long time ago ,but I learned about painting mostly from books by my favourite painters : Edward Wesson, James Fletcher Watson, Edward Seago, And the American painter and teacher John Pike.
My own style currently is loose and quick- relying on effects of misting or blurring and at the opposite end, bold dry brush techniques to suggest texture.
As ive recently retired- I worked on the London Undergound -customer service/ticket seller for 20 years- I hope to be able to spend more time travelling and painting-look out for my blog ,which may be of help to any beginners -I,ll go through the process stage by stage from initial idea to compleated painting ,giving advice on materials etc.
